AI Prompts for Testers

Copy-ready prompts for everyday QA work

Paste into ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot. Replace the [brackets] with your details and always review the output before using it.

1. Test scenarios from a user story

Act as a senior QA engineer. From this user story, list positive, negative, boundary and edge-case test scenarios in a table (ID, scenario, type, priority). User story: [paste story + acceptance criteria]

2. Detailed test cases

Convert these scenarios into test cases with: Test Case ID, Title, Preconditions, Steps, Test Data, Expected Result, Priority. Application: [app/module]. Scenarios: [paste]

3. Boundary value & equivalence partitioning

Apply boundary value analysis and equivalence partitioning to this field and list valid/invalid partitions and test values: [field name, rules, min/max, format]

4. Test data generation

Generate [20] rows of realistic but fake test data as CSV for: [fields]. Include valid rows, invalid rows and edge cases, and add a column explaining each row's purpose.

5. Bug report from notes

Rewrite these notes as a clear bug report with Title, Environment, Steps to Reproduce, Expected, Actual, Severity, Priority and Attachments needed: [paste notes]

6. Selenium / Playwright script

Write a [Playwright TypeScript / Selenium Java] test using Page Object Model for this flow: [steps]. Use stable locators (data-testid/role), explicit assertions and no hard waits.

7. Review my automation code

Review this test code for flakiness, bad waits, weak locators, missing assertions and duplication. Suggest a corrected version: [paste code]

8. API tests from a spec

From this API spec, list API test cases (status codes, schema, auth, negative inputs) and write Rest Assured tests for the top 5: [paste endpoint / Swagger snippet]

9. Failure log analysis

Here is a failing test log and stack trace. Explain the most likely root cause, whether it looks like a product bug, test bug or environment issue, and what to check next: [paste log]

10. Test strategy outline

Draft a test strategy for [application type] covering scope, test levels, types (functional, API, performance, security), environments, tools, entry/exit criteria and risks.

11. Interview practice

Act as an interviewer for a [2-year Selenium Java automation] role. Ask me one question at a time, wait for my answer, then give feedback and a model answer.

12. Test an LLM feature

I'm testing a chatbot that answers questions about [domain]. Create test prompts to check accuracy, hallucination, refusal of unsafe requests, prompt injection and consistency, with expected behaviour for each.
